SORGEP is a hybrid (online and face-to-face) mentorship program that aims to establish an effective and sustainable bond by pairing university students (Stars) one-on-one with children in the 10-year-old age group. The aim of the project is to establish a tracking system focused on responsibility, values, and social adaptation. At the same time, the project aims to increase competencies in taking personal responsibility, developing empathy, and life management.
In this context, Stars gain many skills such as communication, leadership, and time management through professional training modules, while having the opportunity to experience this information in the field by establishing a mentorship relationship with a 10-year-old child. Children in the 10-year-old group find emotional support through the bond based on trust established with a Star while developing their self-confidence, empathy, and social skills; their learning motivation increases, and thus they are prepared for the future with firmer steps.
Star candidates are determined through application and interview. Then, a maximum of 4 students are assigned to each Star. Matching is carried out meticulously by an expert team, taking into account criteria such as age, interest, and regional compatibility.
The professional trainings to be given by our expert team within the scope of the project are divided into modules to last for 3 years.
SORGEP's activity plan is designed in accordance with the developmental periods of children. Every week, face-to-face or online meetings are held between Stars and children. These meetings contribute to children developing their social skills and creating a safe communication environment.
Workshops and events organized within the scope of the program allow children to discover their interests and develop their talents. In addition to activities such as sports, arts, and crafts, visits to institutions such as governorates, municipalities, factories, and nursing homes increase children's social awareness and reinforce their sense of responsibility.
In addition, virtual libraries and online workshops providing access to digital resources facilitate children's access to information and support their learning processes. In this way, children both continue their individual development and strengthen their social and emotional skills within the mentorship relationship.
Stars are responsible for planning and reporting the determined activities. The Project Coordinator receives weekly and monthly reports from each Star. Families are invited to regular information meetings throughout the process, and all data is protected in accordance with privacy policies.
